Winter Activities on Whidbey Island
The one drawback of living in such an amazing and beautiful placer as Whidbey Island is the long nights, and cloudy days of winter. This is what leads so many to leave the island for the winter season, and only return for the glorious summer days. If you’re like me, then you find a certain balance and poetry to the ebb and flow of the seasons on Whidbey Island. The stillness and peace of a rainy winter day leads you to appreciate the synergy and balance between the seasons. Still, sometimes it can be hard to find an engaging activity in the winter, that’s why I wrote this list of the best things to do on Whidbey during the winter season.

Enjoy Some Art
Often referred to as Puget Sound’s Largest Artist’s Colony, Whidbey is home to numerous working artists, writers, and performers. These include many well-known painters, sculptors, glass artists, wood workers, metal workers, mixed media artists, photographers, authors, poets, actors, and musicians. A great winter highlight is the First Saturday Langley Artwalk.
Downtown Langley’s First and Second Street are lined with art galleries, and the Langley Art Walk is the perfect way to find out what’s going on in each of them. The first Saturday of the month between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., each participating gallery opens their doors to showcase stunning works from local artists and regionally-produced art. There’s also refreshments and music and special surprises on hand.
Listen to Live Music
Nothing complements the Winter season quite like great evening of live music. Whether you prefer a performance by our our own Saratoga Orchestra, or an evening with one of our many talented local artists at our local venues, you’ll find something that suits your taste on Whidbey.
